QARC empowers and enriches the experiences of LGBTQIA+ students, faculty, and staff at UC Berkeley through advocacy, service, and engagement.” “The Queer Alliance Resource Center strives to transform UC Berkeley into a safe and affirming space for the trans, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer community. Their mission statement reads as follows: Their goals focus on resources, community, and advocacy.

The Queer Alliance Resource Center, also known as QARC, is Berkeley’s one-stop shop for finding all 19+ LGBTQIA+ student orgs on campus. The Queer Alliance Resource Center (QARC) Spotlight: Three Orgs We Think You Should Know About There are so many organizations to focus on, but I decided to spotlight three orgs with three diverse goals. Lucky for us, the Center for Educational Justice and Community Engagement (CEJCE) has compiled a non-exhaustive list of them. The GenEq Center is a great place to start because it is the most general hub for all things gender and sexuality.Īs I mentioned, there are a ton of LGBTQIA+ student orgs on campus.

They see themselves as a portal to the wealth of resources on campus that fall under the LGBTQ+ or women-forward umbrella. Their mission is to eradicate gender and sexuality-based prejudice on campus. GenEq is a branch of the Division of Equity and Inclusion. One of the most popular resources on-campus is called the Gender Equity Resource Center, commonly referred to as GenEq. In honor of PRIDE month, we’re showcasing some of the ways UC Berkeley works to advance the lives of LGBTQIA+ students, alumni, staff, and potential students. The NCI oncology groups including ACOSOG, COG, ECOG, SWOG, and CALGB all mandate that the radiotherapy materials for their protocols be sent to QARC for review. As a queer student, I was happy to find that UC Berkeley has a long, distinguished history with the LBGTQIA+ community. Past and present pharmaceutical contracts for clinical trials at QARC include Sanofi-Aventis, Amgen, and GlaxoSmithKline. It also collaborates with its UMASS Medical School affiliate in matters pertaining to accounting and employment. The Operations department is predominantly focused on constructing and sustaining working relationships between QARC and the various NCI supported oncology groups as well as the pharmaceutical industry. With the shift toward nuclear medicine in radiology, QARC seeks to build and maintain a vast database with its data management division. Occasionally, QARC will obtain Gallium and Bone scans insofar as a protocal mandates them. The diagnostic imaging segment of data management usually involves Computed Tomography (CT), Positron Emission Tomography (PET), and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans. Typical forms of data include diagnostic imaging, physics benchmarks, and radiology reports. The Data Management division receives and processes all forms of data relating to any given patient on any given protocol. In keeping with its responsibility as a quality assurance agent, the department participates in initial, interventional, and final reviews so as to assure the highest degree of integrity with regard to protocol guidelines. In addition, the department works closely with various institutions, which include the public oncology groups and the private pharmaceutical industry, to develop and implement new benchmarks for specific areas of radiation therapy. The Physics/Dosimetry department is primarily concerned with evaluating the radiation dose calculations submitted with each patient on any given protocol. QARC is divided into three separate sectors, namely that of Physics/Dosimetry, Data Management, and Operations.
